Privacy Policy
Effective November 3, 2026. This policy covers PENNANT on Steam, the PENNANT app for iPhone, and this website.
At a glance
- PENNANT is a single-player game. Neither version has accounts, ads, analytics or tracking.
- Your saves stay on your own device, plus Steam Cloud if you use it. The phone app makes no network connections of its own.
- We receive information only when you choose to email us, for example a bug report or a Pariah prize claim.
- We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for advertising.
1. Who we are
PENNANT is made and published by NoCouch LLC, a New York company ("we", "us"). When this policy says "the game", it means both PENNANT on Steam and the PENNANT app for iPhone.
2. The iPhone app
No connection, no tracking
The app plays entirely on your phone. It makes no network requests of its own, and it contains no analytics, advertising, crash-reporting or tracking code. Its fonts and icons are built into the app. There is no account and no sign-in.
The app does not ask for your location, contacts, camera, microphone or notifications, and it never reads your photo library.
What it stores on your phone
The app keeps three files in its own storage on your phone:
- your save, which holds your generated league, your club and your moves (if a save ever fails to load, the app keeps a copy of it beside the save);
- your Hall of Owners record, the clubs you have run and the badges you have earned;
- a small settings file, such as whether haptics are on and what the app has already shown you.
None of this leaves your phone through the app, and we cannot see it. Deleting the app deletes all of them. If you back up your iPhone to iCloud or to a computer, Apple's backup can include them, under your own Apple account.
Sharing a season card
When you share a season card, the app draws the image on your phone and opens the iPhone share sheet. You choose where it goes. We never receive it. If you pick Save Image there, iPhone asks once whether PENNANT may add pictures to your Photos; the app adds only the card you chose and never reads your library.
3. The Steam game
No connection, no tracking
PENNANT on Steam runs on your computer. The game does not connect to the internet for anything of its own and contains no analytics, advertising or tracking code. Its window shows only the game files installed with it, and a link to a web page opens in your own browser.
Your saves
The game saves after every move. It keeps your save and your Hall of Owners record on your computer, and copies them to a saves folder (on Windows, %APPDATA%\PENNANT\saves). They hold your generated league, your club, your moves and any club name you typed. They hold nothing else about you.
Steam Cloud
If Steam Cloud is on for PENNANT in your Steam library, Steam copies that saves folder to Valve's servers so your game follows you to another computer. That is a Steam feature, run by Valve under Valve's privacy policy. You can turn it off in the game's Properties in your Steam library.
Achievements
When you earn one of PENNANT's achievements, the game tells the Steam client which one. That is the only information the game passes to Steam. The game does not read your Steam name, your friends list or anything else from your Steam account. Who can see your achievements depends on your Steam profile's privacy settings.
The Steam client and overlay
The Steam client, its in-game overlay, your play time and your Steam profile are run by Valve, under Valve's privacy policy. We do not control them.
Season cards and exported saves
Save image writes the card as a picture where you choose (your Pictures\PENNANT folder unless you pick another). Copy image and Copy as text put the card on your clipboard. Export save writes your save and Hall of Owners record to a file on your computer. Each happens only when you click it, and none of it is sent to us.
4. The Pariah prize claim (Steam only)
In the Steam game, the first owner to win a pennant as The Pariah, in the fifth season or later, names the League Championship trophy. The game tells the winner how to claim it: take three screenshots (that October's bracket, the History page and the owner card), press Export save, and email the screenshots and the save file to pennantsportsgame@gmail.com. Sending a claim is up to you. The iPhone app has no prize and no claim.
What we receive: your email address, anything you write, the three screenshots and the save file. The save file contains the game itself: the generated league, your club, the moves you made and any club name you typed. It holds no personal information unless you typed some into the game.
How we use it: to check the claim against the save and the rules, and to write back to you about it. If your claim wins, the trophy name you choose ships in a game update and every player sees it, so choose a name you are glad to make public. We do not publish your email address or anything else from your claim without your permission.
How long we keep it: the winning claim, as the record of who won the prize. Every other claim until the prize is settled, or sooner if you ask us to delete yours.
5. When you email us
If you write to us for help, to report a bug or with a claim, we receive your email address, your name if your email shows it, your message and any files you attach, such as screenshots or a save.
We use them only to answer you, to fix the game and to settle a claim. We do not add you to a mailing list, and we do not sell your message or use it for advertising. Our email provider stores messages on our behalf. We keep support email as long as we need it to help you and track the problem, and we delete it when you ask.
If you post in the PENNANT Steam Discussions instead, your post and your Steam profile name are public on Steam, under Steam's rules.
6. Steam and the App Store
You buy and download PENNANT through Steam or the App Store. Valve and Apple handle the purchase, payment and download under their own privacy policies: Valve's and Apple's. They give us the totals they give every developer, such as sales and download counts. We do not receive your name, your payment details or your account from them.
If you have turned on sharing with app developers on your iPhone, Apple may send us crash reports and basic usage numbers that do not identify you. Apple collects these, and you can turn them off in Settings, under Privacy & Security, then Analytics & Improvements.
7. This website
This site is a few static pages. It sets no cookies and runs no analytics or ads. Two outside services handle a request when you visit:
- the company that hosts the site, which keeps standard server logs (your IP address, browser type, the pages requested and the time) to run and protect it;
- Google Fonts, which serves the site's typeface, so your browser sends your IP address to Google to fetch it, under Google's privacy policy.
8. What we never do
- We do not sell or rent personal information.
- We do not share personal information for advertising.
- We do not track you across other companies' apps or websites.
- Neither version of the game shows ads or includes outside analytics or advertising code.
9. Children
PENNANT is made for a general audience and is not directed at children under 13. The game collects no personal information from anyone, children included.
If a child under 13 emails us, we use the message only to reply, and we delete it at a parent's or guardian's request. If we learn that we have received personal information from a child under 13 without a parent's consent, we delete it. A player under 13 who wins The Pariah should have a parent or guardian send the claim.
10. Your choices and rights
The only personal information we hold is what you email us. You can ask for a copy of it, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it, by writing to pennantsportsgame@gmail.com. We answer within 30 days.
We give these rights to every player wherever you live, including under the GDPR in the European Union and the United Kingdom and under California law. We handle the email you send because you asked us to answer it, and in our interest in supporting the game. If you are in the EU or the UK and unhappy with our answer, you can complain to your local data protection authority.
Everything the game itself stores is on your own device, and you control it: deleting the iPhone app deletes its files, and on Steam you can delete the saves folder named above.
11. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will post the new version on this page with a new effective date. If a future version of PENNANT ever collects information it does not collect today, such as for an online feature, we will update this policy, and the privacy details on the App Store, before that version ships.
